Allen W. Zieker, M.D.
Dr. Allen Zieker received his BS in Biology at Mount Saint Mary's College in Maryland, and his M.D. at the Albany Medical College of Union University. Dr. Zieker has been with Albany-Troy Cataract & Laser Associates since 1984. Not only does Dr. Zieker provide routine eye health exams, but he also treats the majority of the practice's cataract patients and performs LASIK and PRK surgeries. Dr. Zieker performs about 100 cataract and refractive surgeries every month.
Dr. Zieker is a board-certified ophthalmologist, a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology as well as numerous other prestigious organizations. He has served as the Chief of Ophthalmology for Seton Health Systems and is presently the Medical Director of the Albany Regional Eye Surgery Center in Latham, New York.
Robert D. Sax, M.D., PhD
Dr. Robert Sax received his undergraduate degree cum laude from Union College, a PhD in Pharmacology at the University of Virginia, and his MD at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. He then completed a fellowship in vitreo-retinal diseases in New York City at the Mount Sinai and Beth Israel Hospital Eye Centers.
Dr. Sax joined Albany-Troy Cataract & Laser Associates in 1989. His specialty is the treatment of patients with diseases of the retina and vitreous including macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal vascular (blood vessel) diseases, and hereditary retinal diseases. He specializes in laser surgery for a variety of retinal conditions.
Dr. Sax is the recipient of several research fellowships and is a member of numerous professional societies such as The Albany County Medical Society, the New York Ophthalmological Society, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and is board-certified from the American Board of Ophthalmology.

Nalini A. Madiwale, M.D.
Dr. Madiwale joined the practice in 1999 after practicing general ophthalmology and glaucoma treatment in Massachusetts and Rochester, New York. Dr. Madiwale manages the majority of the practice's glaucoma cases, performs surgery on a weekly basis and provides general ophthalmological care at all four of the practice's locations.
Dr. Madiwale attended medical school in India, completing her residency in New York City and was a fellow at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary in Boston. Dr. Madiwale has also spent part of her career as an Assistant Professor at the University of Rochester and as a Clinical Assistant at Harvard University. Dr. Madiwale is a board-certified ophthalmologist and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Christopher R. Zieker, M.D.
Dr. Christopher Zieker completed his ophthalmology residency at Nassau University Medical Center in Long Island, New York. He received his Medical Degree from Albany Medical College and his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Vermont in Burlington.
Dr. Zieker is versed in virtually all aspects of ophthalmic care. He specializes in refractive cataract surgery and LASIK, utilizing the latest techniques and technologies.
He is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and served with a World Cataract Foundation mission in Mexico, 2004.
Heather L. Deere, O.D.
Dr. Deere graduated cum laude from Siena College and then received her Doctor of Optometry at Pennsylvania College of Optometry in 2003. Before joining Albany-Troy Cataract & Laser Associates in 2007, Dr. Deere treated patients at The Eye Institute’s pediatric clinic and at the Philadelphia Veteran’s Association Hospital. Dr. Deere co-manages many ophthalmic diseases with our staff of physicians. She performs complete eye exams as well as contact lens fittings. Dr. Deere is a board- certified Optometrist, a member of the American Optometric Association, and the New York State Optometric Association.
Steven D. Clark, RPA-C
Steven Clark is a New York state registered and nationally certified Physician Assistant who has been with Albany-Troy Cataract and Laser Associates since 1992. Mr. Clark performs all aspects of ophthalmological exams at all of our locations. After graduating cum laude from the University at Albany, he received his Physician Assistant Certificate and Associate in Applied Science from the Albany-Hudson Valley Physician Assistant Program.
In addition to his extensive background in ophthalmology, Mr. Clark also practices emergency and family medicine in the area. He has worked with both the Lions Eye Bank and The Organ Procurement Organization in performing bone marrow harvesting and eye donations. Mr. Clark is a member of numerous medical organizations including The American Academy of Physician Assistants and the New York State Society of Physician Assistants.
